Job Summary

The role of Scientific Services Team Lead will be integral to the success of PerkinElmer OneSource Scientific Services within Heidelberg campus of a major pharmaceutical company and bringing treatments to market more efficiently.

The successful candidate will have responsibility for

  • Day-to-day management responsibilities to deliver high quality support for the onsite Genomic Sciences customer group
  • Provide development opportunities and coaching of the team members conducting face to face meetings and performance reviews
  • Expand and develop support delivered to the customer
  • Promote the successful partnership between the customer and PerkinElmer support

This role will report into the Technical Laboratory Services TLS Functional Lead for Europe and will be based within the EMBL Heidelberg Campus. PerkinElmer OneSource has developed a vital partnership with our customer and seeks to build that growth.

Job Responsibilities

Team Management

  • Responsibility to deliver high quality support for the customer groups and ensuring the performance and operational tasks are fulfilled
  • Provide development opportunities and coaching of the team members conducting face to face meetings and performance reviews
  • Expand and develop support delivered to the customer to return more time back to the scientists
  • Promote the successful partnership between the customer and PerkinElmer support
  • To ensure the standard procedures are written and maintained to show that best practice is exhibited in all activities and that staff work in safe manner
  • Promote an ethos that shows the PerkinElmer values that drives high-quality support and empowers staff to bring variety and challenge to their roles
  • Involved in the training and development of staff and to provide opportunities for their staff to explore new collaboration opportunities
  • Recruit staff to allow the team to continue to deliver the routine requests and to expand into new opportunities
  • Be a role model to their team members, peers and site management
  • Develop a business continuity program to deliver support and to collaborate in best practice procedures with support groups on other customer sites.
  • Collate metrics to show the quality and productivity
  • Share the success of you, the team and the support provided to show the importance of the support on the customer’s delivery goals
  • Proactively identifies and implements efficiency and process improvements into the daily tasks they complete

Service Delivery

  • Learn and develop skills to allow for the continued delivery of high-quality support to the customer where needed including:
    • Co-ordination of the servicing of laboratory equipment to ensure the highest quality standards are maintained.
    • Maintain laboratory supplies with liaison with purchasing groups to ensure continued running of the laboratory.
    • Delivery of in-lab support to the scientists and development of high-complexity support such as cell culture and supply
  • Completion of operational, safety and quality inspections to identify areas of continuous improvement.
  • Liaise with customer operational teams to identify and lead process flow projects.
  • Works with key customer stakeholders to prioritise tasks for utmost efficiency of completion and look at new opportunities for support growth.

Qualifications/Personal Qualities

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology or Biomedical sciences with biology/screening laboratory research experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in laboratory environment.
  • Proven supervisory experience is essential and a good knowledge of biological and genomic lab procedures.
  • Ability to understand customer requirements and clear and concise written and spoken communication skills.
  • Ability to motivate self and to lead and inspire others.
  • Knowledge of SOP, best practice and instruction production.
  • Proven organisational and management experience.
  • Excellent customer service focus and ability to work collaboratively.
  • Problem-solving capabilities and ability to make clear decisions.
  • Enthusiastic, dependable with and a clear attention to detail.
  • Be a good team worker demonstrating loyalty and commitment to the team.
  • Computer literacy and able to communicate using various platforms.
  • Experience working with health and safety procedures.

Physical/Mental Demands

The overall physical exertion of this position requires:

  • Sit or stand 4-5 hours a day in office areas at provided PC/Laptop
  • Sit or stand 2-3 hours a day in laboratory area
  • Work around in modern office arenas, undertaking several different tasks
  • Use of personal protective equipment in laboratory
