Responsibilities

Job Responsibilities:

• Day-to-day operations may include E. coli expression, expression analysis, protein QC including LCMS and LC/MS/MS, instrument maintenance, buffer prep, and restocking consumables.
• Characterize purified proteins using biochemical and biophysical techniques.
• Provide reagents in a timely manner to support multiple platforms, including but not limited to high-throughput screening campaigns, X-ray crystallography, biophysics, and enzymology.
• Completely and accurately record experimental data in lab notebooks, LIMS systems, or other appropriate repositories.
• Clearly communicate experimental results to team members through internal presentations and meetings.

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, or related discipline.
• 2 years of research experience in a Biology laboratory, including coursework.
• Previous experience with recombinant protein expression/purification.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Familiarity with Protein QC techniques such as LCMS, LC/MS/MS, nanoDSF, liquid chromatography, concentration measurement, and endotoxin analysis.
• Experience in E. coli expression in either small-scale shaker or bioreactor scale, including plasmid preparations.
• Use of SDS-PAGE, Western blot, and basic affinity purification to analyze protein production levels.
• Ability to support protein reagent production timeline goals, to support high-throughput screening campaigns, X-ray crystallography, biophysics, and enzymology.
• Has developed strengths in high performance behaviors, such as building relationships, flexible thinking, and enabling/driving change.
• The ability to plan, execute and evaluate multiple scientific strategies in parallel where appropriate.
• Excellent analytical, communication, interpersonal, organizational, and presentation skills.

Other Requirements:

• Must be able to remains in a stationary position more than 25% of the time.
• The person in this position needs to occasionally move inside and outside labs.
• Frequently operate on instruments, objects, tools or controls, which will require regularly bending, squatting, stretching and reaching in order to perform in a service function.
• Regularly move or lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally move or lift up to 100 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required by this position include without limitation, the ability to observe details at close range (within a few feet of the instrument), distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus in order to perform the essential service functions of this position.
• Occasionally operates a computer and other office machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
