Job Summary

The Sr. Network Engineer is responsible for all aspects of PerkinElmer’s Network Engineering and Network support functions.  This role will also own delivering predictable, reliable and stable network services and overall network support for all of PerkinElmer including all DC, Cloud, remote offices the corporate office and field locations. The role includes overall responsibility for providing the designing and implementing the “New” PerkinElmer network.  The new network needs to rely on the latest in “Zero Trust” technology, SDWAN technology, threat protection assuring PerkinElmer is completely secure on all possible attack vectors.  This role will follow the 4 guiding principles set forth by our CIO and CTO – “Secure, Stable, Simple and Scalable”.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and implementation of the new PerkinElmer network.
  • Manage day to day operational activities of network support, including vendor management. 
  • Respond to all incidents, network or other to be quickly available for remediation testing and troubleshooting.
  • The Senior Network engineer ensures proper management of the Network services (including LAN, SDWAN, MAN, Voice, Video, Wireless, ISP, Zero Trust, EDMZ, and Contact Center Technologies) for PerkinElmer in conjunction with the vendor(s). In addition, this role supports Network availability and the introduction of new technology into the Network environment. 
  • Analyze existing operations and make recommendations for the improvement and growth of the operating environment.
  • Manage physical Network assets and re-location services.
  • Oversee the performance of the Network and assure it is managed and monitored.
  • Assist the overall IT organization in performing problem management duties such as identifying recurring application and infrastructure incidents from a network perspective.  This includes the communication of identified problems to relevant stakeholders.
  • Manage direct staff members to help facilitate the end users’ ability to perform their work from any location.
  • Ensure relevant performance management activities such as measurement of Service Level Agreements are performed.
  • Deep familiarity with key technology platforms and how they can impact business scalability. Ensures I&T capabilities are delivered reliably, sustainably, cost effectively and securely. Ensures the end user computing contributions are delivered with agility based on changing business objectives, goals and strategies.
  • Stay current on new and emerging technologies and platforms. Provides recommendations on what future technologies should be assimilated, integrated and introduced within PerkinElmer to ensure end user computing capabilities respond to the needs of our digital business strategy.
  • Where appropriate, participate in negotiate or re-negotiate contracts with vendors and professional services providers.
  • Improve communication and collaboration throughout the organization allowing technology and systems to be facilitators of collaboration.
  • Develop, secure stakeholder buy-in, and implement an end user computing vision as PerkinElmer embarks on a digital transformation

Critical Skills

  • Expert skill level with industry leading Network hardware and software technologies and architectures including CISCO, Silverpeak, F5, Gigamon, Wireless (Aruba, Meraki), Infoblox, Arbor, ThousandEyes, Solarwinds, NetScout, ZScaler, Zero Trust, Edge, Cloud Adjacency, Route53, Direct Connect,  etc…
  • Expert knowledge of routing protocols like BGP, OSPF, and EIGRP
  • Proven internal and external influencing skills at senior and executive management levels.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and instill confidence with peers and all key stakeholders.
  • Effective influencing and negotiation skills in an environment where resources may not be in direct control of this role.
  • Excellent analytical, strategic conceptual thinking, strategic planning and execution skills.
  • Strong business acumen, including industry, domain-specific knowledge of the enterprise and its business units
  • Ability to drive organizational change and build capabilities that effectively balance the needs for continuously exploiting capabilities to optimize operational efficiency, with delivering innovative and agile IT solutions to enable the business to explore digital business opportunities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain digital concepts and technologies to business leaders, and business concepts to the IT workforce

Basic Qualification: (Required Education & Experience)

  • 10+ years related Network Architecture, Engineer and management or lead experience
  • 5-7+ years Network vendor leadership experience, ideally at a global manufacturing company leading teams of similar scale
  • Should 5-7 years have previous experience managing vendors and outsourced offshore resources.
  • Minimum of 7 years' experience of contributing to the success of a range of midsize-to-large initiatives with above-average levels of complexity and business criticality, building a team-oriented, collaborative environment, and creating business cases and managing budgets,

Preferred Experience:

  • Significant experience in large dynamic routing environments.
  • Experience managing public internet routing, transport and access
  • Extensive knowledge of network service providers for both Public and private line access.
  • Preferably proven experience or demonstrated capability in leading large, complex and or transformational initiatives in dynamic environments and taking advantage of digital opportunities to innovate business models and enable the digitalization of the business.
  • Expertise in budget planning and financial management
  • Deep understanding of current and emerging technologies and how other enterprises are employing them to drive digital business and how they may be applied to the enterprise to drive digital business
  • Ability to manage geographically diverse teams and overcome the culture clashes that may arise

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to remains in a stationary position more than 25% of the time
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include without limitation, the ability to observe details at close range (within a few feet of the instrument), distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus in order to perform the essential service functions of this position.
  • Occasionally operates a computer and other office machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer
